What did you reclaim this year?

Reader,

You are receiving this (pre-scheduled) email while I am on a break. So it doesn’t address or reflect on anything that might be happening in the world at the moment. (And honestly, I’m really hoping nothing major is happening… because we’ve all had plenty happen already.)

We’re reclaiming what we lost!!

Have I been in your inbox long enough for you to hear me repeatedly say that systemic oppression is trauma?

Systemic oppression is trauma in the form of disconnection: disconnection from our bodies, from our cultural practices, from our inner knowledge, and from our ancestral roots.

That’s why I believe that honoring all of the above—embodiment, culture, inner knowledge, and ancestors—needs to be an integral part of the therapy and healing spaces.

Honoring these things isn’t just about healing in the present—it’s about reclaiming what was taken (and what’s still being taken).

Reclaiming what was taken is resistance and healing. (Whether you are doing this for yourself or your clients —or both)

It’s a way of saying: you belong to something bigger than the harm you’ve endured or witnessed, and your story holds strength and resilience that you can draw from.

So…

What have you reclaimed this year and what will you reclaim next?

I’ll go first. I’m still in this never-ending journey of reclaiming more spaces of joy, connection, and care. Why? Because it can be hard for me to slow down and stop working… I want to do all the projects and support all the right causes… and tackle all the oppressive things that need fixing…

But I’ll still reclaiming rest, joy, connection, and care—especially rest. Even when it feels like the “wrong” time to rest (because there’s never a wrong time to rest, right?)

Even though I’m on a hibernation break, I want to hear from you:

What did you reclaim this year and what will you reclaim next??? Hit reply and let me know. I’ll be so excited to read it when I’m back.

In community and in slowing down 🐌

Reader, We talk a lot about “success” at the end of the year — how much we achieved, how much we accomplished, how many milestones we hit. But if we’re honest, most of us inherited a definition of success that was never ours to begin with. Success, for many of us, was shaped by systems that taught our families that safety had to be earned. That rest was conditional. That slowing down was dangerous. That productivity was proactivity. There is nothing wrong with wanting more: more ease, more...
