Reader, You are receiving this (pre-scheduled) email while I am on a break. So it doesn’t address or reflect on anything that might be happening in the world at the moment. (And honestly, I’m really hoping nothing major is happening… because we’ve all had plenty happen already.) We’re reclaiming what we lost!! Have I been in your inbox long enough for you to hear me repeatedly say that systemic oppression is trauma? Systemic oppression is trauma in the form of disconnection: disconnection from our bodies, from our cultural practices, from our inner knowledge, and from our ancestral roots. That’s why I believe that honoring all of the above—embodiment, culture, inner knowledge, and ancestors—needs to be an integral part of the therapy and healing spaces. Honoring these things isn’t just about healing in the present—it’s about reclaiming what was taken (and what’s still being taken). Reclaiming what was taken is resistance and healing. (Whether you are doing this for yourself or your clients —or both) It’s a way of saying: you belong to something bigger than the harm you’ve endured or witnessed, and your story holds strength and resilience that you can draw from. So… What have you reclaimed this year and what will you reclaim next? I’ll go first. I’m still in this never-ending journey of reclaiming more spaces of joy, connection, and care. Why? Because it can be hard for me to slow down and stop working… I want to do all the projects and support all the right causes… and tackle all the oppressive things that need fixing… But I’ll still reclaiming rest, joy, connection, and care—especially rest. Even when it feels like the “wrong” time to rest (because there’s never a wrong time to rest, right?) Even though I’m on a hibernation break, I want to hear from you: What did you reclaim this year and what will you reclaim next??? Hit reply and let me know. I’ll be so excited to read it when I’m back. In community and in slowing down 🐌 Silvana @ Decolonize Your Practice PS. You can read previous Liberatory Letters here. PPS. I help clinicians, healers, and coaches incorporate decolonized and liberatory values in their practices so that you can have a practice and/or service-based business that is truly affirming and welcoming to clients who hold marginalized identities.

This is the fifth and last letter on building healing connections grounded in awareness of power and oppression (healing connections with clients and in your community). Read on! Reader, We can’t talk about liberatory healing without looking in the mirror. The systems of oppression we’re trying to dismantle out there through out therapy and healing practice—white supremacy, patriarchy, capitalism—are in here too. They shape how we think, how we show up, and even how we heal. Decolonizing our...
