Winding down

Reader,

We’re still a month away from the (Northern) winter solstice, but I swear that I already feel the darkness in my bones.

I am also noticing that it was a little over a year ago that I shared with you that I was feeling exhausted (and depleted)… at least this year I made it to November before feeling exhausted. Last year that feeling arrived in early October.

Why am I sharing this with you? To let you know that I am winding down. I am winding down because my body is asking me to slow down, get more rest, warmth, and hibernate, and because I deserve it.

It has taken me a while to realize that some of my (most recent) minoritized identities (having chronic health issues and invisible disabilities) were not getting the rest and attention they deserve. And that makes me wonder in what ways I was bringing this same ableist bias to the sessions with my clients. To me this is yet another example that decolonization (unlearning -isms and phobias) is a lifelong journey.

And while I wind down and until next year, my following emails will be brief check-ins in the form of:

  1. A very important question, and your answer will help me shape my offerings for next year. Eg., last year you suggested AMA meetings, and I was able to get that going as Decolonized Q&A sessions mid-summer.
  2. My usual end-of-the-year emails about resources that were meaningful to me and that I learned from this past year. I would love to know what resources you discovered this year too.

If you want to be in community one more time, I am offering one more free Decolonized Consultation session in December:

  • Monday 4th at 11am PT / 2pm ET for BIPoC clinicians. Sign up here
  • Monday 11th at 11am PT / 2pm ET for white clinicians. Sign up here

But if you want to meet 1:1 I still have some space in December for 1:1 Decolonized Consultation sessions.

What happens in these sessions?

  • We meet for around 4-5 sessions (depending on how much work you want to do) and discuss your goals for these meetings.
  • I’ll audit your site, your paperwork, your service/offering to make it more decolonized and affirming for clients who hold minoritized identities
  • I’ll give you feedback, point out your strengths and areas for growth, and suggest changes.
  • We’ll develop a plan you can use to decolonize each and every aspect of your service, treatment, offering, and/or business.

Schedule your 1:1 consultation here

In community,

Silvana @ Decolonize Your Practice

PS.

I will continue answering your questions next year, thank you for sending so many!!!

marquee of a question mark

Reader, Short and sweet because I want your input. As I map out next year’s offerings — workshops, Q&As, learning circles, mini-courses, communal practice spaces — I want to hear directly from you. What do you need as you keep unlearning colonial frameworks and building a practice (and reconnecting with a self) rooted in liberation, justice, and collective care? Just hit reply and answer one or all of these: Questions Where are you struggling most in bringing your liberatory, anti-oppressive,...
