Sharing a resource

Reader,

I’m on semi vacation this week (I’m not seeing therapy clients, I’m catching up on… well, on everything else) and next week I plan on eating a lot of oat milk ice cream while watching TV on the couch. So this week I’m sharing a resource and then going back to my progress notes.

Long time ago I took a training on Decolonized Non Violent Communication that felt like finding community. It felt nourishing and inspiring. First of all, it was a training just for BIPoC and it was about a well known subject, but from a decolonized lens. I’m so thankful I found this person that inspired me to experience the world not just with my intellect but with my whole body. So in case you’re curious check it out. Oh and that's not an affiliate link or anything like that. I’m just sharing something I found valuable in case you find it valuable too.

Are there any training you've taken recently that you would like to share with this community?

That’s it! Now I’ll go back to notes while dreaming of TV and ice cream for next week.

Warmly,

Silvana @ Decolonize Your Practice

PS.

It's open enrollment for Decolonize your Practice!

  • It's an 8-week program for mental health clinicians who want to incorporate decolonized and liberation focused values in their practices.
  • It starts the 3rd and 4th weeks of September

Who is it for?

  • Clinicians who are sure about their social justice values but who don't know how to implement them in their practices.
  • Clinicians who are feeling stuck or afraid of not being a "nice therapist" to clients of marginalized identities.

What will you learn?

  • Embodied practices to learn to a) tolerate your discomfort, b) be aware of how white supremacy thinking gets in the way and makes you feel stuck, c) move forward based on your values.
  • How to design an action plan and how to follow through with it.
  • How to unlearn perfectionism, binaries, professionalism and other aspects of white supremacy culture in mental health.

What will you get out of this experience?

  • Confidence to move forward and be ok with messing up.
  • Your own plan to get unstuck (because you'll get stuck again, we all do).
  • A clear plan, a roadmap to know how to move forward beyond this program.
  • Community 💛

Some clinicians shared with me that they would like to participate in Decolonize Your Practice but the time doesn't work for them. I'd like your feedback if you're in the same boat. What times would work better for you? Hit reply and let me know!

Reader, A quick update on what I've been up to: 🛋️ The Practice of Liberation is where I offer a quieter, slower, more intimate space and deeper look into what decolonizing my work, my connections, and myself actually looks like.It grew from the same intention as Liberatory Letters, but moves with a more tender, gentler, introspective pace — one that centers who we are, how we practice, and what liberation looks like in daily life. It’s meant for those ready to practice liberation in real...

Reader, We talk a lot about “success” at the end of the year — how much we achieved, how much we accomplished, how many milestones we hit. But if we’re honest, most of us inherited a definition of success that was never ours to begin with. Success, for many of us, was shaped by systems that taught our families that safety had to be earned. That rest was conditional. That slowing down was dangerous. That productivity was proactivity. There is nothing wrong with wanting more: more ease, more...
